What is Whiplash?

In this quick video, Dr. Rowe (St. Joseph, MI chiropractor) goes over the signs and symptoms of a whiplash injury. Learn more now!

Whiplash is a neck injury usually caused by a sudden, forceful motion of the cervical spine and its supporting soft tissues. ⠀
Think getting rear-ended in an auto accident, and having the neck snapped forward and then backward violently. ↔ī¸â €
It can be seen on an x-ray or MRI, and tends to give the classic S-shape reversed cervical curve. ↩ī¸â €
In many cases, whiplash symptoms may not be felt until 1-2 days after the injury. At this point, inflammation builds in the muscle, ligaments, and tendons of the injured area. đŸ”Ĩ This will lead to new issues such as stiffness, headaches, neck pain, and even numbness or tingling into the shoulders and arms.⠀
⚠ī¸ It's important to get any suspected whiplash injury checked out ASAP after an accident, even if there's little to no immediate symptoms. ⠀
