A Better Hamstring Stretch
In this quick video, Dr. Rowe (St. Joseph, MI chiropractor) shows a helpful hamstring stretch that will give some real relief. Give it a try today!
A BETTER HAMSTRING STRETCH.⠀
Ever wondered if the classic "touch the toes" hammy stretch might actually be causing more issues than fixing? ⠀
With the classic 'touch the toes' motion, the knees are locked and the upper body is bent forward. This causes a ton of tension on low back nerves. ⠀
ALSO, this motion tends to round out the low back so it becomes more of a lumbar flexion movement vs actually stretching and lengthening the hamstrings. ⠀
HERE'S THE FIX:
Slightly bend in the knee.
Start to lean forward into the stretch and engage the pelvis/hip (the hamstring is a hip mover, get it involved). ⠀
Breathe slow and controlled. ⠀
Once a good stretch is felt, hold for up to 30 seconds.⠀
Relax, switch sides, and repeat 3 to 5 times on each side.⠀
NOTE: take caution with any recent hamstring injuries, since stretching ripped/aggravated muscle tissue isn't a good idea . When in doubt, always get it checked out.⠀
