Non-Surgical Spinal Decompression is a revolutionary new technology used primarily to treat disc injuries in the neck and back. This safe, drug-free treatment works by gently lengthening and releasing the spine, creating negative pressures within the spinal discs. This reversal of pressure creates a “vacuum effect” within the disc space, and helps to pull the bulging disc material back into place, taking pressure off pinched nerves and surrounding soft tissue.
Spinal Decompression Therapy works by restoring proper function to an injured disc. This is done by producing a controlled traction on the spine. During the ‘pull’, injured discs are gently stretched, producing a suction force inside the disc. This draws disc bulges and herniations back into the center of the disc along with oxygen, water, nutrients, and other healing substances. The end result is a strong, healthy, and properly functioning disc.
If you suffer from recent to long standing back or neck pain, including radiating pains into your leg or arm, Spinal Decompression may be able to help. Many common issues we have treated with SDT include:
Every patient is evaluated on an individual basis to determine if they are a candidate for this therapy.
Average treatment times are between 15-20 minutes (each session). During treatments, there are several waves of stretching and relaxing which helps with the healing process of the discs and spine. Most patients state that they feel a mild stretch over their lower back, neck or hip region as well as a feeling of relaxation. In fact, it is not uncommon for patients who have arrived in severe pain to fall asleep during their treatment session!
The most common side-effect of the treatment is mild muscular soreness. The sensation would be similar to what a person might experience at the onset of a new exercise program.
Results will vary on the patient and the severity of their condition. However, many patients report significant, long-lasting improvement in as little as 4-6 visits.
Spinal Decompression Therapy has been shown to be extremely effective with spinal disc issues. Here are some medical studies that show the success rates of this therapy:
“86% of the 219 patients who completed the therapy reported immediate resolution of symptoms” – Orthopedic Technology Review.
“Vertebral axial [spinal] decompression was successful in 71% of the 778 cases” – Journal of Neurological Research.
“‘Good to excellent’ relief in 86% patients with Herniated discs” – The American Journal of Pain Management.
“Decompression therapy reported a 76.5% with complete remission and 19.6% with partial remission of pain and disability” – Rio Grande Hospital, Department of Neurosurgery.
“Patients reported a mean 88.9% improvement in back pain and better function…No patient required any invasive therapies (e.g. epidural injections, surgery).” – American Academy of Pain Management.
